Culture Shock
We had to select a type of food (based off of a nation given by our teacher) and create an identity system and truck design.
For this project, I chose Ecuador as the cultural inspiration for my food truck concept. I wanted to focus on a country with a rich history, strong traditions, and bold visual elements that would translate well into a unique and memorable brand. The name of my food truck is El Colmillo, which translates to “The Fang” in English. I chose this name because it feels bold, powerful, and representative of the strength and spirit found in Ecuadorian culture.
The colors, imagery, and mascot in my design were all carefully selected to reflect authentic Ecuadorian influences. The mascot—a jaguar—is one of the country’s native animals and plays an important symbolic role in many South American cultures. Jaguars represent courage, pride, and a deep connection to the natural environment, making it the perfect character to represent my food truck.
The color scheme is also inspired by traditional Ecuadorian clothing, festivals, and cultural patterns. Bright, warm tones and bold contrasts are commonly found in their textiles and artwork, so I incorporated those same vibrant colors to give the brand a lively, energetic feel. These visual choices help communicate the flavor, warmth, and cultural richness behind the food being served.
